Pressure ulcer prevention

Pressure ulcerer prevention - The power of four

By: Mölnlycke Health Care, June 18 2013Posted in: Pressure ulcer prevention

When compared with no dressing and competitors’ products, Mepilex® Border Sacrum has been demonstrated to combat four extrinsic factors that can contribute to developing pressure ulcers i.e to redistribute shear, redistribute pressure, reduce friction, and to maintain an optimal microclimate1,2,3.

In-vitro test results demonstrate that Mepilex® Border Sacrum can help decrease the effects of shear forces on tissue by up to 50% during wear time, as compared to when no dressing is being used4.

Testing also reveals that when compared to conventional dressings, Mepilex® Border Sacrum’s five unique layers exhibit superior fluid retention characteristics, maintaining proper moisture balance and microclimate, keeping skin dry5.
